Inked - Crime Noir Piece

I am kind of on the fence with how I feel this one came out.  It says "victim" to me and not "danger".  Any way the crime noir piece is finished and I am waiting to hear what the client says.  I did another version of this that I will post later.  It says "danger" the guy has a gun and looked a lot tougher.

Crime-Noir

I am doing a job for a guy who is doing a script for a crime-noir webseries.  This is one of my sketches.  All of the black is surprisingly intimidating.  Although the man is supposed to be a detective, he seems more like a zombie.  So I am changing the guy.  Took some reference photos yesterday, hopefully I can make him a bit more...tough?  Yeah tough.

Weekend of Sketchcard-y Goodness.

I tried to crank out a number of sketchcards this weekend.
Star Wars Personal Sketchcards :Clone Trooper, Emperor Palpatine, Millennium Falcon, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Farmboy Luke, Kit Fisto.  Trying to get faster, trying to get better, all micron pens.

Sketchcardiness - Jedi Youngling

This was something that I thought you never seen much off is Star Wars sketchcards, a Jedi Young-ling, totally innocent, not knowing that there is a guy named Darth Vader coming to kill him, maybe he has felt the disturbance in The Force, but just doesn't know what it means...poor kid.

Sketchcards... Princess Amidala

Todays sketchcard comes courtesy of SW:TPM (Episode 1).  Princess Amidala in one of her big headdresses.  I like the way it came out generally, it doesn't look like Natalie Portman, but I think it looks good.  there are some issues with the skull size and the eye placement...but overall I think it is alright.

Sketchcard of Princess Leia, from Ep 4.  I found with this one that even the position of the eyebrow, makes or breaks the entire portrait.  I had a real problem with the chin, and I was worried about the eye.  A couple of small tweaks changed the whole picture.  It was not working at all, I moved the eyebrow and reworked the chin and things really came together.

Here is another Star Wars sketchcard, Obi-Wan Kenobi.   Think this one came out okay.  Again with the Micron Pens.  I did this one while my son was watching the Return of the Jedi for the second time in a day.  :)

Sketchcards Yoda-ness

Sketch card I did this morning, Yoda, using a crosshatch technique.  I haven't done a crosshatch drawing in quite sometime and I really enjoyed it.  Done with Micron Pens and Canson 150lb sketchcards.

Nathan Fillion Continued

This one is my favorite of the two.  This is from a scene in ABC's CASTLE where Nathan Fillion is dressing up for Halloween as a "Space Cowboy" a direct nod to his days as Mal Reynolds on Joss Whedon's Firefly series.  This is one of the first "finished" works I have done that involves a real background.

Finally Finished _ Nathan Fillion

This is a picture I did of Nathan Fillion as Capt Mal Reynolds from Firefly.  Inked with an amazing Pentel brush that uses a replaceable ink cartridge.  You never have to dip the pen in ink or water.  I have found it liberating.  Anyway, this is inked with black and gray ink.  I tried to give it a Micheal Cho kind of feel.  I didn't get it what I wanted it but I think it was a pretty decent first try.  I will be working a lot more with these lind of works.

Better Late than Never Halloween Art

Got the idea for this one AFTER Halloween!  LOL  Anyway, I wanted to do a cute pumpkin family.  Drew it on a 5x8 blank hallmark card.

Karloff's Frankenstein

I drew this is a blank Hallmark card for my High School Art teacher.  I am putting it in the mail today.  I hope she likes it.  I have tried to express to her what an influence she had on me in HS, even though I haven't become a professional artist yet, I still draw upon the experiences I had in her class to this day.

Thanks Mrs. Phila McDaniel, Art teacher @ Gardena HS, Los Angeles

Tusken Raider Thursday

Today is Tusken Raider Thursday! I was really happy with the way this one came out.  My first attempt at a Tusken Raider.  Mostly Faber pens, but I used some Copics in the end, we will have to see what the next one looks like all Copic...

Sketchcard - Jawa

Sketchcard -  Jawa
I love these lil guys!  This is one of my first full color sketchcards.  Interesting way to draw...you know, with color.  LOL  (My friends will know why)  I used Copic and faber markers, but I think in the future I will be sticking to the Copics.  There is a real difference in the them.  The Copics are a lot smoother and have a much richer color.  Anyway, let me know what you think!

Fanart - Sheldon Comics

I drew todays sketch after reading some old comics from Dave Kellett's SHELDON, Dante is the best friend of the main character Sheldon, and in addition to being a artist, he dresses up as STICKMAN when they play heroes.  So this is my attempt at Stickman.  If you want to start on a great comic Sheldon is AWESOME at being Awesome.

Ken Elvistrooper Tarleton - Fan art

A sketch of one of my favorate comic con regulars.  Ken Elvistrooper Tarleton.  He is way too cool for me to be drawing, but I dig this pose and wanted to draw it.  Pen and ink in my brown paper sketchbook.

Stormtrooper Sketchyness

Stormtrooper sketch that I actually inked.  I wanted to try out my white pen and this seemed to be a great one to try it on.

October is for Scariness!

This is done with pan and ink, some red ink for the blood.  I found some blank Hallmark cards that say "Yooo Hooo" (with a small Owl) on the front.  Open them up and a nice large drawing surface.  I thought this would be good for an October drawing.

A Bluer, Happy You!

I used a blue colored pencil to see what kind of look a sketch would have.  I picked a happier photo, cause franklly, my lastest sketches have been mean or sad-looking faces.  Anyway, I thought it was a pretty decent 20 min sketch.

My Buddy Ken

A couple of different shot of my sketch of my Buddy Ken.  This photo was just begging to be drawn.  Anyway, a pencil, sketchbook and about 20 minutes later...He said he liked it, I hope so.  LOL

Hulkin' out Self Portrait

Another 20-minute sketch.  Me all angry and stuff.  I don't think the left eye is right...and the face seems a bit thin.  I will have to work on that.

Self Portrait Sketch

Here is a 20-minute self-portrait sketch in pencil.  Seems to be a pretty close likeness...What do you think?

New Luke Skywalker Lineart

Here is a sketch and the line art from the sketch. I think I might try inking this with the computer before I start with markers. I have to say, I love the sketch so much more that the line art, but I think that is because the sketch has some shading and the line art has nothing but...possibility. I am stretching...growing...I hope... LOL

More Star Wars Universe!

A couple of more sketches of the Dymanic Duo of the Star Wars U. Han Solo, inked. and Luke Skywalker from Return of the Jedi. Not comfortable with the inks yet, I am still in a "feeling out" period. But I was pretty pleased with the first effort on the Han Solo sketch.

Luke Skywalker

My sketch of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. Took about 45 minutes and done with a #2 pencil.

"You scruffy-looking...nerfherder!"

Pencil sketch of Han Solo. I like it for the most part, but the eyes seem a bit...big and the it just makes him look unnatural and zombie-like...I like the way the hair turned out though... :)

Obi-Wan Sketches

Here are a couple of sketches of Alex Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The shape of the skulls are quite right, but I am working on it. I am just trying to get pen/pencil to paper these days and working on getting recognizable figures.

Back from Comic-Con and getting my feet under me

Okay, so I drew my first actual sketchcard. I bought a pack of card stock and I am going to start working on them. I put this one of Leia as Boushh on eBay and we will see if any one thinks it is worth anything. LOL

Sketch of Mt Shasta

We rolled into Weed, Ca on our way to the Tri-Cities in Washington state and we stayed the night, Weed is a cool little town, and by little and mean little. But it has one of the best Burger cafe's I have ever eaten at and for the life of me, I can't remember the name...damn. Anyway, the sun was going down adn I took a few minutes to do a sketch of Mt. Shasta.

Wonder Woman Birthday Commission

This is a commission I did for my friend Marie (Happy Birthday!) at the request of her husband Kenny. I hope she likes it. :)

Black Vulcan Sketch

I have never seen Black Vulcan, I have never drawn Black Vulcan...Heck as far as I can tell he was only on a couple of episodes of SuperFriends back in the day... Anyway, a friend wanted a sketch, so I did the best I could.... I think he liked it. :)

Darth Maul Commission

This is a commission that I did this afternoon. It is for a little boy's birthday and his favorite Star Wars character is Darth Maul. I hope he likes it.
