Process of the Joker sketch card

It took some pics of the card as I was making it, not as many as I wanted, as I drew, I forgot to stop and take a picture.  But you get the idea of the process of pencils and colors and then finishing the colors.  I hope you like it.

This is the WIP of my new piece, The Fireman, inspired by my friend Jamie who works for the Las Vegas FD.  Comments and crits appreciated.

Another page from the sketchbook project

Another page from my The Sketchbook Project Sketchbook.  FALLING.  I am really loving this, I think I am getting better and quickly getting wrinkles in fabric.

Another page from The Sketchbook Project

Here is another page from my sketchbook project FALLING.  I am working in some greys to distinguish parts of the structure from other parts.  I hope it works.

WIP - Fireman

This is a work-in-progress, I was inspired by one of my good friends Jamie, who is a firefighter in Las Vegas.  She is such a great person, a firefighter, mother to twins and braver than I could ever be.  I wanted to do something for all firefighters.  This is this first round of inks, I imagine it will change but it seems to be coming along for now.

Latest ink on Tusken Raider

Latest inks on the Tusken Raider.  I will be getting rid of some of the black lines and I am really trying to make the hill in the background work.  I am not sure I am succeeding. What do you think?

Inking Stage - Tuskin Raider

Just wanted to show you an update on my new Tuskin Raider piece.  I have spoted some of the big black areas.  I still need to go in an do the wrapping on the head and I am not looking forward to that.  LOL.  Anyway, let me know what you think!

Jedi Clone Lightyear Cosplay

This is a pen and ink drawing of my son when we went to Free Comic book Day at Brave New World Comics in Newhall.  I was really happy with a lot of the fabric texture, but it is really difficult to get the "feel" of the fabric with pen and ink.  I would love to heard what you think of it.

Cad Bane - Watercolor and Ink

I really like drawing Cad Bane.  I am having a real good time with the watercolors too.  I can't say I am getting them to do what I want, more like I am doing stuff and seeing what I end up with.  Anyway.  Today's watercolor experiment with ink.  Comments are always welcome.

Boba Fett - Work In Progress

I am doing a cool new Boba Fett piece, I am really loving it.  It is based on reference from the Ken the "ElvisTrooper".  That guys takes some seriously great pictures.  I would love to color this, but my color skills are basic at best.
I would love to find someone that could color this for me.  If you know anyone that might be interested, please contact me  ccthorne@socal.rr.com

The Rocketeer

This is a piece I have been working on, on and off, for a while and it has been finished for a while too, I have just been too lazy to scan and post.  I wanted to to an ink piece for Dave Steven's, the Rocketeer for a while, I think it just lens itself to a older look.  The reference photo came from a cosplay photographer I found on Flickr named  djwudi/Michael Hanscom, I think this guy is a really good photographer.  I need to work on developing some backgrounds...  LOL

Sketch Card trading - Oran Parker

I got a note from another sketchcard artist named Oran Parker, (Check out his site http://www.oranparker.com/ ) who wanted to know if I would trade cards with him.  After checking out his stuff, I said Yes right away.  He requested Beta-Ray Bill, Abe Lincoln and Hawkman.  None of which I had any experience with, but I thought this would be a great deal.  I had a bunch of things going on travel-wise (see Korea blog-post) so I wasn't able to get to them finished right away.  I saw the cards he did (see his blog post about the trade) and I knew I was going to need to up my game.  Anyway.  I did one of Abe Lincoln "Vampire Slayer", A raging Bill, and Golden Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl.  I did the Lincoln on tan card stock to give it a vintage feel.  I wanted the Hawkman to still feel Golden-Agey so I tried to do it in that style.  I just wanted Bill to look as pissed off as I could.  I did an earlier one, that I will post later, but in the pencils stage, I creased it doing some erasing and so I had to start over again.  I actually did another Abe, but I didn't like the feeling, so I redid it and I think this one is much much better.  I hope he likes them!

Trigger Fish Watercolor

This is a watercolor that was commissioned for a friend.  Watercolor on watercolor paper, I did finish it off with inks, but I haven't scanned it yet.

Finished Cody

I finished the Commander Cody Watercolor piece, I added ink to it.  I was very pleasantly surprised in how well it came out.  The Clone Troopers are really starting to grow on me.  Makes me wonder why the Empire got away from the clones or if there are clones in the Stormtroopers uniforms...hmm.
